ecoEnergy Retrofit Homes Program Cancelled

Yesterday, it was quietly announced that the program ecoEnergy Retrofit  Homes program has been canceled.  This is really too bad as the program was very popular, to the point were the government was forced to add more money each year to cover all the grants.  I have completed one project under the program, a geothermal system, and currently we are in the process of a home renovation that will qualify for some grant money.  It seems a shame that the Government of Canada would cancel the program as it seemed to be achieving two goals, the obvious environmental impact of lowering a homes environmental impact and also encouraging people to put money back into their homes.

For those individuals that have taken part in the program already have invested large amounts of captial that they were going to be compenstated for, will they still get the return on the investment?

    Thank you
    Have a sunny day!

  • I believe that if you have already started in the program, had the first audit, then the awnser is yes, you still can qualify for a grant. However, there is a deadline to have everything completed by March, 2011.

I think its a big shame that the program was cancelled on the Federal side of things. Home Owners are still able to recieve up to $5000 worth of grants for eco-renovations. It seemed silly that they would cancel the program with a year left(for the federal side of things) as it created jobs and helped out the environment.
